On to Boston We Go

On To Boston…with Bogie and Cindy

So….we have finished all the music making for a while and decided to drive into New Hampshire to stay at a Bed and Breakfast/Lakeside cabin retreat for the day and night before going on to Boston.

Kimberly had made the reservations and we were all very excited to see what we were getting ourselves into. Unfortunately they just were not ready for us.

The place is called the Woodbound Inn and really will be lovely when the ongoing work on the main house and are is finished.

The owners were out of town for Memorial Day weekend and the girls behind the desk said they were not allowed to give refunds. We left our contact information with them, expecting to hear from the owners that evening, and went on into Boston.

I didn’t hear anything for some time and was a little upset about it so I wrote a firm letter of complaint to the owners via e-mail assuring them that some of you reading this might take it to heart.

It turned out to be a miscommunication issue and the owners were very sweet about the entire affair. They quickly reimbursed our payment and gave us a free stay including breakfast when we return. I believe it will be an enjoyable trip and we look forward to trying again.

Still….we had to find somewhere in Boston…on Memorial Day Weekend. And we did Two of them actually because the hotel, with which we had our original reservations for the following evening, could not accommodate us a day early. What we did discover was the Langham Hotel.

The service and attention to detail at this magnificent hotel were actually quite overwhelming. The staff were as friendly and courteous as any we have encountered on our merry travels.

And not the kind of courteous that comes with a guilt trip to extract larger tips either. No…these guys were sweet. They seemed to genuinely care about our comfort in a professional manner worthy of the establishment’s longstanding reputation as one of the finest in it’s field.

I liked it there a lot.

The next night we moved to the Parker House Omni. Another awesome place to stay if not a little ’stuffier’ than The Langham.

But since Boston is one of the oldest cities in America it’s not hard to find the oldest -this and oldest that- everywhere. The Parker House is the oldest continuously running hotel in the country. It has been providing excellent service since the late 1,600s.

The lobby is absolutely gorgeous with it’s antique furnishings, giant ceilings and exquisite architectural detail. Huge flower arrangements adorned massive marble and glass tables. It smelled of old wood and the faint aroma of a fine cigar mixed with the scent of fresh cut flowers.

The suite was huge and beautifully furnished. And the bed! Ahhhhhhhhh J So it had it’s great points to be sure. The service, however, was sporadically good and depended a great deal on whom one happened to be speaking with at the time.

The location in the heart of the financial district made trips to the harbor a breeze and is within walking distance of Chinatown.

If you go to Boston be sure to go to the Chinese Restaurant “Peachtree” , in China Town, for one of the best, authentic Chinese dinners anywhere this side of Beijing. I was very impressed with everyone’s choice of dishes that evening. I had the beef with Chinese broccoli and it was awesome!! I mean really!

It was interesting too that we were the only people in the small basement dining room who did not speak Chinese. I love a local restaurant full of locals!

On our last night in Boston we went to dinner after everyone walked and strolled and visited and took pictures and walked…at a restaurant we thought was one place recommended by a friend but turned out to be another with the same name.

It all worked out ok though. Bogie wanted a traditional Boston Lobster dinner so that’s what we got :)

It was really pretty good. I’m kinda weird about lobster though…I hate to see them get cooked. :(

After I was finished eating (I’m glad it was after) the owner/chef ,whom Bogie had met earlier in the day, came out with this giant, had to be, 40 pound lobster on his shoulder! It was huge. At $45 per pound……maybe he had a chance to stick around a while!!

All in all the month of May was pretty awesome for Kimberly and I. We spent most of it in Vermont finishing the CD and to top that off spent some precious quality time with our dear friends Bogie and Cindy.

With all that under our belt……we are on our way to Europe.

Stay tuned and know that I love ya.
